This is the season for elections. There will be pivotal elections in both Israel and the United States over the next few days. And the results of both these elections may shape the course of political events and influences for years to come, for good or for bad.
When Israel rejected God their King and asked for a human king to rule over them, the LORD gave them what they wanted (a pitiful trade if you ask me). He also gave them these instructions in 1 Samuel 12:13-25,
Now therefore, here is the King whom you have chosen and whom you have desired. And take note, the LORD has set a king over you. If you hear the LORD and serve Him and obey His voice, and do not rebel against the commandment of the LORD; then both you and the king who reigns over you will continue following the LORD your God…Then Samuel said to the people, “Do not fear. You have done all this wickedness; yet do not turn aside from following the LORD, but serve Him with all your heart…For the LORD will not forsake His people, for His great name’s sake, because it has pleased the LORD to make you His people. Moreover, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you; but I will teach you the good and right way. Only fear the LORD and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you…”
Whether we approve of our “king” (President or Prime Minister) or not, we are under obligation by our KING to pray for his salvation, his welfare, his health and for godly wisdom to reign. And let us honor the Lord our King, praying for all of our government leaders and for the Lord’s will to be done in the upcoming elections. Far be it from us that we should cease to pray for them and for our nations!
Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet a peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:1-4)
May God save our kings. And may the favor of THE KING be on you today! May you have a calm and blessed assurance that HE is still in control no matter what the outcome of the elections or the decisions of men dictate.
(P.S. Do your part; let your voice be heard. Get out and vote if you are eligible!)
