I never cease to be amazed and awed by the beauty of a rainbow after a storm. It is a ray of hope, a bright reminder of a promise from long ago.
After the Flood, God set His rainbow in the sky as a sign of His covenant with Noah. Genesis 9:11-13 says,
“Thus I establish My covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth…I set My rainbow I the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.”
But did you know that there is a second amazing promise attached to the rainbow that is especially for YOU?!? Isaiah 54:9-10 says,
“‘For this is like the waters of Noah to Me; For as I have sworn that the waters of Noah would no longer cover the earth, so I have sworn that I would not be angry with you, nor rebuke you. For the mountains shall depart and the hills be removed, but My kindness shall not depart from you, nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,’ says the LORD, who has mercy on you.”
God’s kindness and mercy and peace over you are as vast and as deep as the waters that covered the earth, even covering the mountaintops in Noah’s day! There is no measure of the depth of His love and grace over you. And there is no limit to the expanse of His forgiveness. No one can sin so great or run so far that God’s love and mercy cannot reach them.
“For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:11-13)
The Lord has great plans for your life…even higher and greater than your mind can conjure up. He promised that His covenant of peace would not be removed. And what was the sign of this promised covenant? The rainbow is a reminder for both Him and you of His everlasting covenant with you.
So, the next time you see a rainbow, take a moment to pause and drink in the view. Ponder His promise to the earth, and then take a second moment to remind yourself, “God loves me! God’s peace and mercy and kindness are like a flood over me!”
Lord, I thank YOU for Your rainbows over me today! I receive Your good pleasures for me! Amen! Amen!
