As Palm Sunday is approaching this week, I was struck with this thought in my daily devotion time.

“…He sent two of His disciples, saying, ‘Go into the village opposite you, where as you enter you will find a colt tied, on which no one had ever sat. Loose it and bring it here. And if anyone asks you, “Why are you loosing it?” thus you shall say to him, “Because the Lord has need of it.”’ So those who were sent went their way and found it just as He said to them. But as they were loosing the colt, the owners of it said to them, ‘Why are you loosing the colt?’ And they said, ‘The Lord has need of him.’ Then they brought him to Jesus…” (Luke 19:30-35a)

Suppose you saw two men in your driveway trying to crank your brand new car that you hadn’t even had a chance to drive yet, and you ran out and said, “Why are you taking my brand new car?” And they tell you that the Lord needs it. What would you do? Would you give them the keys and just let them drive it away, no questions asked?

When you gave your heart to Jesus, did you commit your all to Him? Have you made available to Him every part of your life? Your thoughts and prayers? Yes, of course. Your body—your hands and feet extended to the needy? Your mouth as a megaphone to share His Gospel? Perhaps. Your talents and abilities? Maybe that too. Your prized possessions—your money, your home, your car, your job, your special collection? Your reputation among your friends and neighbors? Have you surrendered all to Jesus to serve Him? Are you willing to let go of everything you hold dear to serve Him and further His kingdom? Ouch! But that is what it means to be a living sacrifice. And that is our reasonable service according to Romans 12:1,

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.”

Has the Lord said to you, “I have need of this or that in your life” regarding something you have been holding back? The Lord wants you—all of you. He gave His ALL to redeem you. It cost Him everything, but you were worth it!  Don’t be afraid to give your ALL to Him, because He will repay you with amazing dividends that you cannot imagine. May you be filled with peace and joy as you surrender every part of yourself to Him today.
