In ancient times, when a man got engaged, he betrothed himself to his intended wife with a valuable gift. This gift was a sign of his commitment to her that he would take care of her and provide for her needs. It was also a token of security for her, that if he did not fulfill his promise in the marriage she could use the gift to provide for her sustenance in her singleness.
The same principle operates with the Lord. When we receive Him into our heart, He betroths us to Himself as the bride of Christ. And what valuable gifts has He given us as a sign of His commitment to love and care for us and provide for our needs? And what token of security does He offer that He will keep His promises? Hosea 2:19 outlines God’s marriage covenant,

“I will betroth you to Me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to Me in righteousness and justice, in lovingkindness and mercy; I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness, and you shall know the LORD.”

These are valuable and precious gifts that we can depend on. He will ALWAYS do right for us! He will stand in our defense with justice when the enemy tries to accuse us, but He will also treat us with mercy when we ourselves have gone astray. He will never stop caring for us and showing us His kindness–His undeserved grace– just because He loves us so dearly. And finally, we never have to worry about Him not keeping the promises of His marriage covenant! He has betrothed us with His gift of faithfulness, that He will NEVER leave us nor forsake us. We will never be shut out from His presence (unless we ourselves are unfaithful to Him and turn our back on Him–yet even in this the Lord will still love us and will woo us back to Him). The Lord hates divorce, so when He betroths Himself to us it is FOREVER. He can never lie or break His promises.

Be assured today that you can trust the Lord completely to keep His word to you. This is your key to having total peace of mind in whatever situation you may face. Keep holding on to His promises to you. Don’t give up!
May you be blessed today as you revel in all the good gifts the Father has lavished on you because He cares for you.
