Have you ever heard the question, “Does God have favorites?” Some would argue absolutely not! God is not a respecter of persons according to Acts 10:34 & Romans 2:11. But I would argue that God DOES have favorites. “And who would they be?”, you are probably thinking. I say that God’s favorites are those who WANT to be His favorites.
I love this blessing that Moses gave to the tribe of Benjamin in Deuteronomy 33:12,
“Of Benjamin he said: ‘The beloved of the LORD shall dwell in safety by Him, who shelters him all the day long; and he shall dwell between His shoulders.'”
Are you one of the beloved of the Lord?
What does it mean to dwell between His shoulders? This means living close to His heart. This is like a child who clings to his daddy or mommy’s neck. And when you get there, the Lord wraps His arms around you and doesn’t want to put you back down. He wants you there in His bosom as much as you want to be there. When we are held tight in his arms, we feel safe. He shields us from harm and danger, sickness and injury, and every evil thing that the devil would bring across our paths. When we are in His deepest presence, at His very heart, we lose all the weight of the worries or fears or stresses or failures that plague our minds. This is the place where all is right and perfect.
Do you want to be one of God’s favorites?
I does take effort to become one of God’s beloved. We need to let go of our schedules and demands and press into His presence. We must make our time with Him a priority every day. We have to seek that deep place where we can not only sense or hear God’s heartbeat, but we FEEL the pulsing and our heart begins to beat in the same rhythm with His.
Keep pressing! Keep searching! He is not far from you. He is pressing closer and seeking you at the same time. And He makes it easy to reach out and touch Him. He’s as close as the mention of His name.
“The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth. He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry and save them. The LORD preserves all who love Him…” (Psalm 145:18-20)
Yes! God DOES have favorites! They are those who dwell between His shoulders, who cling to His neck and allow themselves to be enveloped in His loving embrace. It just doesn’t matter to Him who they are. You can be one of His most beloved today! And it is well worth the effort!
