Have you ever sought the Lord’s will for your life and felt that your prayers were bouncing off the ceiling and that your ears were stuffed with cotton? Have you stood at a crossroads of decisions and were not sure of which path to take or how you would find your way once you made a decision? Have you become overwhelmed or overanxious about the stresses of the events around you? You are not alone. Even the best of God’s choice servants have been in the same place.

When Moses stood before the burning bush and God called him to lead His people out of Egypt and into the Promised Land, he knew that this was a task that was bigger than him. But I don’t think he understood the grand scope of what this assignment would fully entail. But at Mount Sinai, as the reality began to sink in for Moses, and he saw the actual enormity of the journey ahead of him, he became overwhelmed and unsure that he would be able to do this without the Lord’s help.

“Then Moses said to the LORD, ‘See, You say to me, “Bring up this people.” But You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You have said, “I know you by name, and you have also found grace in My sight.” Now, therefore…show me Your way, that I may know You.’

And He said, ‘My Presence will go with you and I will give you rest.’

… And he said, ‘Please show me Your glory.’

Then He said, ‘I will make all my goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.’” Exodus 33:12-19 (excerpts)

The Lord has called you; He knows you by name. He has given you a great assignment to accomplish in your life. And we all, like Moses, struggle to know how to do God’s will for each of us. But He is gracious and full of compassion; He understands our weaknesses. And He has promised that His Presence will go with you in all He has given you to do.

When you are unsure, pray as David did in Psalm 61:1-4,

“Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer…When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For You have been a shelter for me, a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in Your tabernacle forever; I will trust in the shelter of Your wings.”

As we move ahead under God’s gentle direction, don’t be overwhelmed with what has been a heavy weight on our shoulders in this difficult year we have been navigating. Press into His Presence until you see His glory pass by. Hide yourself in the cleft of the Rock that is higher and find refuge under the shadow of His wings!

The Lord knows where you are and what you’re going through, and He loves you with an everlasting love. He desires for you to succeed. He is for you, not against you. And He craves for you to call on Him and lean on Him for support every step of the way He is leading you. He will not leave you to flounder or try to find your way on your own. Rise up and go forward in the power of His hand on your life! He has promised that His presence will go with you and His goodness will go before you. May you be blessed and encouraged today in all you set your hands to do.
