Did you know that the global perfume industry is worth over $30 billion a year? And some of the most exquisite fragrances sell for hundreds or even thousands of dollars for a tiny vial? People have been fascinated with scents and fragrances for thousands of years. There was even a special formula for the holy anointing oil and incense that was to be burned in the Holy Place of the Tabernacle that was forbidden by God to be replicated for any other purpose (see Exodus 30:22-38).

But the most valuable and precious fragrance by far is found in 2 Corinthians 2:14-16,

“Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things?”

We are all like little perfume vials walking around diffusing the scent of Christ. Some are attracted by His scent in us and want to know how they can get this for themselves. Others are repulsed by our fragrance. But the most important thing is that this most precious and costly perfume has been made available for free to any who would receive Him. Is that not amazing love?!

Are you diffusing the scent of the Lord to those around you? If you are, people cannot help but react to your fragrance—either with attraction or revulsion. So don’t be alarmed if you are despised or rejected by some. But for those who are breathing in life for the first time you should be ready to introduce them to their Messiah. Do you not feel sufficient for the task? Do you feel timid to speak up for fear of rejection? Don’t worry about what you need to say to them. The Lord has only asked that you be obedient and open your mouth. The Holy Spirit will give you the right words to say; He is your sufficiency.

Be encouraged to live for the Lord today. Shine your light! Diffuse your fragrance! Triumph through Him today!
