I love going to a wedding. It’s a special time to dress up in our most elegant apparel and put on our nicest jewelry and style our hair. And even more exciting than that is seeing the bride in all her glorious raiment walking down the aisle. Everyone stands and cranes their necks to get the best view of the beautiful wedding dress she is wearing. My husband’s grandmother often told him, “Earth is only a dressing room for Heaven.” What we do, how we live, the testimony we share is all just preparation for our eternal life.

Today I read in Colossians 3:8-14 about how we are to undress from our sinful ways and dress up for our righteous life. What does this look like?

“But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds., and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him…”

We should first take off the filthy clothes of sin. All of this should pass away when we are born again, or become a new man or woman in Yeshua.  And what lovely clothes has He given us to put on instead? His closet is filled with wonderful garments to adorn us as the bride of Yeshua.

“Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you , so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.”

And the final piece of our heavenly wardrobe is love. This is the crown jewel. This is the bond of perfection–the ultimate symbol of our union with Yeshua. Like our wedding band is a symbol of marriage, love is our sign of being the Bride of Christ.

How is your spiritual wardrobe looking today? Grungy clothes are not acceptable in God’s eyes. Shabby chic is never in style in God’s dressing room. Only the exquisitely beautiful and graceful and elegant apparel is becoming on those who are betrothed to His Majesty, our Eternal King and Lord.

It’s a good time to go through our spiritual closets and get rid of some old habits, soiled or tattered ways and replace them with beautiful, new garments of praise. May you be blessed as you get dressed up with all the lovely spiritual raiment that God has to offer you today!
