Have you ever tried savory oatmeal? Most people top their oatmeal with fruit, nuts or cinnamon & sugar. But have you tried oatmeal cooked in chicken broth and topped with cherry tomatoes, chives and parmesan cheese? I can honestly say that this delicious combination testifies to the goodness of the Lord! Are you not tracking with me yet? Keep reading.
When Paul and Barnabas healed a crippled man in Lystra, the people wanted to offer sacrifices to them as gods. But Paul declared, “Men, why are you doing these things?…you should turn from these useless things to the living God…who in bygone generations allowed all nations to walk in their own ways. Nevertheless He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good, gave us rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.” (Acts 14:15-17)
No one can stand and say that they had no witness of God in their life. The rain that brings a harvest which gives us the food we all enjoy so immensely, all speak of the goodness of the Lord God and His constant care and provision to all people. But even more than this is another food that nourishes our soul.
Isaiah 55:10-11 says, “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”
So, the next time you sit down to gladly fill your heart with the good food God has provided, thank Him not only for the food but also for His Word that testifies of His great love over you. He knows what you need and delights in providing for those needs, especially when we acknowledge that the source of our supply lies in His hand and thank Him for it. He has a good plan for your life and has sent His Word to accomplish that plan within your heart. And He takes great pleasure in feeding your soul with all the rich promises that He has made for you. So as you sit down to enjoy a bowl of savory oatmeal, or whatever you choose for breakfast, also take a moment to enjoy a tidbit from God’s Word. Then you can honestly “Taste and see that the LORD is good” in every sense of the word! (Psalm 34:8)
May you be filled with all of God’s goodness and health and strength in your body, soul and spirit today.
