I like to read Proverbs. What is a proverb? It is a short, pithy saying that contains a nugget of truth. The word “proverb” comes from the Latin words “pro” (to put forth) and “verb” (a word). But in my mind it is more than just a good saying. I like to think of them as “pro” (positive) “verbs” (action words). Thus, the Proverbs should not only speak a good word, but they should propel us to do positive actions too. They also give us advice for how to reflect positive reactions to circumstances all of us face in our lives at one point or another.

Proverbs 3 has great tips on living a long, satisfying life. This chapter gives us the outcomes of a few of our positive actions. Here are a few of the answers to the issues that weight in our minds:

Do you want to live a long, peaceful life? Read Proverbs 3:1-2.
Do you want to have favor in the eyes of both God and men? Look at Proverbs 3:3-4.
Do you need health and strength in your body? Check out Proverbs 3:7-8.
Do you want to prosper and never be lacking good things? Go to Proverbs 3:9-10
Do you want to live in safety and have sweet sleep without fear or nightmares? The secret is in Proverbs 3:21-24.
Are you searching for happiness in life? Proverbs 3:13-18 tells where to find it.

Take a fresh look at Proverbs. I challenge you to not just write them on the tablet of your heart, but to also write some of these nuggets down and hang them in places where you can be reminded of all the positive actions that God wants to do for you every day.
