Infinite Mindfulness

My dear friend, Talia, once told me of her camping trip in the Negev of Israel. In a remote desert landscape, far from any city lights, with nothing to obscure her view, she found a place away from the campfire to sit alone in the dark and gaze at the stars. Oh, the vast myriads of stars she could see that were usually outshone by the lights of the cityscape! Suddenly, she began to feel quite small and frightened, realizing how immense the world is and the universe beyond our skies. She quietly returned to the closeness of the campfire and her friends who also keenly understood how she felt.

King David penned the same sentiments in Psalm 8:1-4,

“O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth, who have set Your glory above the heavens!… When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him?”

When you think about the vast expanse of the Universe and the wonders of the sun, moon and stars, and the beauty of this planet that God created, and the billions of people that fill it, then you too can start to feel very small and insignificant. Yet, God has YOU in His thoughts at this very moment. At your cry, the Lord comes down from His position above infinity to meet you at the most finite point of your being. He delights in taking care of all your needs. And He has good plans for YOUR life to honor YOU for your faithfulness. You are His special creation. He is concerned with even the smallest details of your life. He is intimately aware of where you are and what you are going through. Our Father is infinitely mindful of each one of His children.

He doesn’t want you to feel alone or intimidated to approach Him. We are assured in 1 Peter 5:6-7,

“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”

God is GOOD and worthy of your worship today. “Let us therefore come boldly before His throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16) Have fun reveling in the grace and goodness of your great Heavenly Father today!

Drinking From God’s Firehose

Have you ever heard the phrase, “drinking from a firehose”? This describes a situation when one is overwhelmed with too much work, information, etc. at once. It is to be inundated with an uncapped, unfiltered amount, or to attempt to take a small amount from an enormous, hard-to-manage quantity. Usually, this is not a pleasant or comfortable situation. But this is not the case when it comes to outpourings from God. Two things that God delights in pouring out upon us every day are grace and peace.

How much grace does God have? It is inexhaustible! Is there a limit to the peace He can pour out? It is unfathomable! When God bestows His grace and peace on you, He doesn’t give it in a single portion, a measure that you can contain. It is a nine-fold outpouring from an unquenchable source. What does this mean? Where do these nine outpourings emanate from? Who all is involved in this blessing? Revelation 1:4-6 says,

“Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne, and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead and the ruler over the kings of the earth…”

So, the first measure of grace and peace comes from God the Father Himself, who is and who was and who is to come. He is ever-present, unchanging, all-knowing. He is your firm foundation. And seven more outpourings come to you from the seven Spirits who are before His throne. Who are these seven Spirits who send grace and peace? Isaiah 11:2 lists them by name:

The Spirit of the LORD (Holy Ghost)
The Spirit of Wisdom
The Spirit of Understanding
The Spirit of Counsel
The Spirit of Might
The Spirit of Knowledge
The Spirit of the Fear of the Lord

Each one of these seven Spirits, or seven facets of the Holy Spirit of God, dispense grace and peace to you in different ways. They lead and guide you in every step you make and teach you to trust in the Lord. And finally, for dessert, you get a ninth hefty portion of grace and peace from the Son, Jesus Christ. He is always faithful and has given you a promise of hope for your future resurrection. So, the entire Godhead–Father, Son and Spirit–are all cooperating to lavish upon us grace and peace. No wonder we can’t contain all the grace and peace God freely offers us! We are being flooded with it from every aspect of God’s character! What a wonderful blessing it is to drink in the grace and peace from God’s heavenly firehose.

Brace yourself! All of this grace and peace and many more blessings are coming to you right now from God’s firehose. May you be filled to overflowing with more than you can contain from God today!!!!

Being Glorified in God

Dearly Beloved of the Lord,

Have you been having a trying week? Have you struggled with your devotions amid the chaos swirling around you? Have you felt discouraged or lost your temper? Don’t feel bad, you are not alone. We all have been going through something in one way or another. But be encouraged! The Lord is also with you through all the rough days. He hasn’t forgotten where you are. He understands what you are going through. And He loves you with a love that cannot be quenched.

Here is a special message for you from the Lord today…It’s found in 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12,

“Therefore, we also pray always for you that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and the work of faith with power, that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and our Lord Jesus Christ.”

It’s easy to see how God can be glorified in us as we live for Him and trust Him and obey His leading in our lives. As we yield ourselves to Him, His presence reflects out from us, shining to the world the testimony of His goodness and His working in our faith with power. But how can we be glorified in Him? This is where grace comes in. Grace has made a way for us to have close relationship with God. As we press in to His presence and allow ourselves to be enveloped in His arms of love, we bring great joy to God’s heart. When we trust and obey, it thrills the Lord so much that we become the apple of His eye. And as we progress in Him, He transforms us into His likeness. This is how we are glorified in Him.

“I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God…Show Your marvelous lovingkindness by Your right hand…Keep me as the apple of Your eye…” Psalm 17:6-8

Beloved of the Lord, I pray you will find your place in the apple of God’s eye today. Take your eyes off your circumstances and the frustrations around you and look up into His eyes of love and glory in the lavish grace and goodness He has to offer you. Be glorified in Him today!
