In Habakkuk 3:19, the prophet declared,

“The LORD God is my strength; He will make my feet like deer’s feet, and He will make me walk on my high hills.”

Have you thought about how deer run? They have nimble hooves that help them spring forward in great leaps and bounds. And their cloven hooves help them climb up rocky cliffs and balance themselves fearlessly on even the narrowest ledges.

Our Lord God gives us feet like a deer too. By His strength we can spring into action when the enemy prowls around like a roaring lion. We can turn and run from every semblance of evil. He helps us overcome obstacles and balance ourselves firmly on His Word. He is our rock. We can cling fearlessly to Him, and when we hide ourselves in the cleft of His rock the enemy cannot reach us or threaten us. He gives us a way of escape from all the schemes of the devil to ensnare us. And as we move up His mountain, the way may seem rocky and narrow and steep. But with feet like a deer, we can stand securely in even the tightest predicaments. And He always leads us up to a new level, a higher plain, in our walk with Him.

May you have a spring of joy in your step today as you strengthen yourself on the Rock of your salvation. May you be sure and confident in your spiritual footing. Be alert and ready to bound away from every evil thing that would try to trip you up. And may you dance and rejoice in the peace of His presence around you.
