A few years ago, I broke my right arm. I learned surprisingly quick how much I depended on my dominant arm to do so many daily tasks. I was equally surprised to learn how inept my left arm was at doing the same simple jobs.

King David had many mighty men who helped him in his battles. Some, even from King Saul’s family, were “armed with bows, using both the right hand and the left in hurling stones and shooting arrows with the bow.” (1 Chronicles 12:2)

How did these men become so adept at fighting with both hands equally? They were not born that way; it took years of practice to train their weak hand to perform as well as their dominant hand.

Do you have a spiritually weak arm? You may be doing very well in one area (like reading your Bible or paying your tithes) but missing by a long shot in another (like praying or fasting). We all have areas of our life that are lacking or less disciplined. And unfortunately, the devil tries to take advantage of us by attacking us where we are weakest. We need to have both of our hands trained and equipped to function optimally in our spiritual walk. But our own strength and determination are not enough to shore up the vulnerable areas of our life. We need help.

There is a secret to being spiritually ambidextrous. We have One who will come alongside and fill in our gaps with His power to make us more than overcomers. Consider these verses…

“And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” (2 Corinthians 12:9-10)

Yes!!! You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you! Fight with both hands!!! Don’t give the enemy an opportunity to come against you from any direction. You need to be spiritually ambidextrous to fight both defensively and offensively. The Lord has given you the sword of the Spirit (which is the Word of God) to fight offensively. But you also need the shield of faith on the other hand to fend off the fiery darts of the devil. Both of your spiritual arms need to be trained and equipped equally to withstand the enemy’s continual onslaughts. And remember, through the power of our Lord we shall do valiantly, for it is He (through both of our yielded hands) who shall tread down our enemies.
